At its core, violence barres the survivor from basic human rights, needs and safety.  Libraries are one of the last places in our communities where someone can take space without payment, where someone may find moments of safety in their otherwise unsafe world. This workshop will provide an overview of gender-based and other varying forms of violence, its impacts and ways libraries and their staff members can support those patrons in need.

Elizabeth Munsky is an LGBTQIA+ Advocacy Consultant with over 10 years of LGBTQ+ advocacy, education, policy and program development experience.  Elizabeth specializes in policy analysis and program development for local and city governmental agencies.  Throughout her career she has assisted local public schools, tech industry leaders, small non-profits, local and city government agencies of all sizes, and everywhere in-between; all with the goal of pushing the needle of progress, support and affirmation for LGBTQIA+ people forward.  Currently she works as the Executive Director of LGBTQIA+ Affairs at the New York City Department of Correction.  As a self-defined educator and experiential learner, Elizabeth hopes that she can learn as much for those attending her workshops as they do from her.
