LILRC Diversity Internships
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR SPRING 2024 INTERNSHIP The Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) is inviting applications from diverse undergraduate students on Long Island to apply for a paid internship to learn more about libraries and librarianship as a career path. Internship Job DescriptionReporting to the Communications and Outreach Coordinator, the intern will assist the coordinator with implementing communications, marketing, and programming for member libraries. This includes posting and managing content on social media accounts and providing support for online or in person programs. The intern will be given at least four opportunities to shadow professionals in different libraries to learn more about the type of work in libraries. Shadowing may include some work completed under the direction of the librarian in the member library. Most work will be performed at the LILRC office in Bellport, New York. Library visits to libraries in Nassau or Suffolk Counties will occasionally be required. There may be occasional remote work opportunities as well. $4000 stipend for 15/hours/week with a flexible schedule - 16 weeks period (mid January 2024 to mid May 2024) Anticipated work schedule will include Mondays and one other weekday. |
Spring 2024 - Intern Aisha Khanfri
LILRC is excited to welcome Aisha Khanfri of Stony Brook University as our Spring 2024 intern. Aisha is an Art History and Criticism major, with a minor in Studio Arts, and will graduate in Spring 2024. Aisha is particularly interested in Contemporary African Art and Art of the Middle East. For Studio Arts, she focuses on ceramics and painting. In her free time, Aisha makes art outside her classes, and enjoys roller skating, baking, and reading. During her internship, Aisha will learn about communications, outreach, program coordination, and more while working with LILRC’s Communications and Outreach Coordinator. She will also visit Long Island libraries to learn about the wide variety of opportunities in the library profession while shadowing and assisting librarians.

Spring 2023 - Intern Kenia Sanchez
Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) and the LILRC Diversity Committee are pleased to announce that Kenia Sanchez of Brentwood has been selected as the LILRC Intern for Spring 2023.
Ms. Sanchez is a Science, Technology, and Societies major at Farmingdale State College. She plans to pursue a career in medicine. When she heard about medical librarianship, her thought was "it was the coolest thing in the world!" Kenia is eager to further her knowledge in all the different career choices available to her. She loves learning and thinks this internship will provide her "with new tools and skill sets for both personal and academic growth."

Fall 2022 Intern - Rebecca Daniel
Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) and the LILRC Diversity Committee are pleased to announce that Rebecca Daniel of Port Jefferson Station has been selected as the LILRC Intern for Fall 2022.
Ms. Daniel is a Psychology Major at Stony Brook University and will graduate in May 2023. During her internship, she will learn about communications, outreach, program coordination, and more while working with LILRC’s Communications and Outreach Coordinator. She will also visit Long Island libraries to learn about the wide variety of opportunities in the library profession while shadowing and assisting librarians.

Spring 2022 Intern- Nancy Myers
Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) and the LILRC Diversity Committee are pleased to announce that Nancy Myers of Riverhead has been selected as the LILRC Intern for Spring 2022. Ms. Myers is currently an undergraduate student at Suffolk County Community College, where she will complete her Associate’s Degree in Spring 2022. Ms. Myers also works as a circulation clerk at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor, where she first developed an interest in librarianship.
