Ft - Human Resource Generalist - Great Neck Library

The Great Neck Library is seeking a Human Resource Generalist for a culturally diverse, highly educated community. Under the direction of the Library Director, the Human Resource Generalist manages the daily functions of the Human Resource department. The HR Generalist performs tasks required to administer and execute HR programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes & investigations; performance & talent management; productivity, recognition, & morale; occupational health & safety; & training & development.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Review job descriptions of vacant positions to ascertain relevance to current circumstances and advise upper-level management accordingly.
  • Recruits and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental and branch heads to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • 1-9 verification and maintenance of documents.
  • Administers and oversees leaves including FMLA and Short-Term Disability
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
  • Maintains personnel records pursuant to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • May attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Oversees time leave records to ensure annual, personal and sick leave accumulations are accurate.
  • Monitors sick and other leave messages and informs Department Heads.
  • Ensures adherence to annual evaluation process, ensuring that such evaluations are consistent with job descriptions and fair employment practices.
  • Develops programs to recognize excellence and boost morale.
  • Attends and participates in administrative and regular staff meetings.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and other education and training opportunities related to personnel work to remain current with current law and practices
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources required, Master's degree in Human Resources preferred.
  • At least two years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP a plus.

Schedule:

Full-time – 35 hours/week, may include days, nights, and weekends as needed

Starting Salary Range:

$70,000 - $80,000 plus full benefits package including NYS Retirement System.

We are a participating employer in the New York State & Local Retirement System.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, longevity, specialty and training.
