Duties
The East Islip Public Library is looking for a forward thinking, self-motivated librarian to staff the Adult Services Desk and provide assistance with reference and referral services, reader’s advisory, computer, printing and digital technology services, the creation of promotional materials, and assisting patrons and running programs in our Maker Lab. Additional duties might include: collection development, book displays, and weeding.
Qualifications
- At least 12 credit hours of coursework in an ALA Accredited Library Science program
- MLS from an ALA-accredited Institution
- A valid NYS Public Librarian Certificate
Possession of the following skills is beneficial
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Knowledge of Cricut Design Space and Cricut devices and 3D printing
- Knowledge of MS Word, Publisher and Excel
- Knowledge of Sierra and the Innovative Interfaces ILS
- Knowledge of the databases on Live-brary
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop a plus
Hours
- Every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Benefits
- Membership in NYS Retirement System (optional).
- Part-time staff is eligible for 10 holidays if they occur on a scheduled workday.
Salary
- Is determined by the current collective bargaining agreement and based on experience.
- Entry level salary for a Librarian I is $32.72 per hour
- Entry level salary for a Librarian trainee is $28.86 per hour
Hiring will be based on the Director’s decision with Library Board approval.
