Please join LILRC when we welcome Nicholas A. Brown-Cáceres and David H. Plylar, authors of Let the People Hear It: Concerts from the Library of Congress at 100 (Library of Congress, January 25, 2026).

Let the People Hear It tells the story of groundbreaking philanthropist Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge who founded the series and built four concert halls across the country. The book also explores the history of the concert series and its impact on music in the United States, and many connections to some of the most important composers and performers of the past 100 years, from Arnold Schoenberg and the Gershwin brothers to Esperanza Spalding and Stevie Wonder. The concert series has commissioned upwards of 700 new works since 1925, including numerous by living New England-based composers and major 20th century works like Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring.

Nicholas A. Brown-Cáceres is acting chief of the Library of Congress's Music Division. He previously served in senior leadership roles at the Prince George's County Memorial Library System and Washington Performing Arts and he is a former Army bandsman.

Dr. David H. Plylar is a music specialist and concert producer at the Library of Congress. He is also a composer and pianist who writes about music.
