Explore the major forces reshaping New York’s library ecosystem: technology disruption, evolving community demographics, policy shifts, and economic uncertainty. This talk emphasizes actionable insights, offering strategies for how libraries can modernize collections, reimagine spaces, invest in staff development, and strengthen statewide collaboration

Presented by:

Grace Riario is a seasoned library professional with over twenty-five years of experience spanning public, college, and school libraries. In 2019, she made history as the first Latina appointed Chief Executive Officer of a Library System in New York State, leading the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) in Middletown, NY. Grace holds an MLIS from Queens College, an MPA from Penn State University, and an advanced certificate in Public Library Administration from Long Island University. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping statewide library policy, including developing the New York State trustee education curriculum, supporting Trustee Education Legislation, and updating public library minimum standards implemented in January 2021.

Beyond her administrative achievements, Grace has served as chair of the Regents Advisory Council and the Public Library System Directors Association, advocating for libraries at the highest levels. Today, she focuses her efforts on engaging communities around sustainable library funding, advancing digital justice, and reinforcing the principle that libraries are created by and for the people.

Victor Caputo is a former Library Director, and a Director of public relations/adult programs with over 30 years' experience in libraries. He is the CEO of Supernova Consultants and the 2022 recipient of the LDA Award.
