Resource Sharing and Interlibrary Loan are often overlooked but basic services in health sciences libraries. This course will discuss the fundamentals of resource sharing, interlibrary loan, and document delivery; their evolution; the variety of platforms available, how to build partnerships; how to better serve our patrons; all while honoring our licenses and following the law.

Attendees will learn the terminology, best practices, and the history of resource sharing as well as the challenges this service presents. The primary ILL systems and management software will be covered.

Brief quizzes will be included in the course and those quizzes will be offered as a handout for those who take the course as a recording.

Audience

Medical librarians and other information professionals who want to expand their knowledge about Interlibrary Loan and Resource Sharing.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Recognize the differences between resource sharing, interlibrary loan, and document delivery.

Be comfortable with the terminology of interlibrary loan.

Understand the complexities of interlibrary loan.

Consider the ways resource sharing can help your patrons in their studies and practice.

Know how your library can be a better partner to other libraries.

Presenter: Jennifer K. Lloyd, MLIS, AHIP is the Associate Director for the LSUHSC Libraries in New Orleans. She has been an ILL specialist for much of her 30 year career. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals and an active member of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association.
