Have you ever found an image or text online and thought that you'd love to use it in your own poster / website / presentation / signage, but you're not sure if you can? Ever wonder why some things are freely available online while other things get taken down because of some sort of copyright issue? Creative Commons (CC) is a global nonprofit organization that makes copyright and open sharing more clear. We provide a suite of legal tools to help creators and users understand, at a glance, what they can and cannot do with creative content. In this session, learn more about the work we do with libraries, museums, and research and education institutions to help them not only manage their own content and collections but also to help their patrons understand the ins and outs of intellectual property (IP). By the end of this session, you'll know more about the professional development, training, and consulting options that CC makes available and where to go for additional information. About the speaker: Prior to joining CC as Learning and Training Manager, Shanna Hollich worked for 15 years as a librarian across multiple institutions – K-12 school, public, government, and academic. They have worked in public/access services, technical services and cataloging/metadata, and administration, ultimately serving as director for the John Stewart Memorial Library at Wilson College and the Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover, PA. Shanna remains an active member of the American Library Association and several local community service organizations. They currently hold a master’s degree in Data Analytics from Penn State University, a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from Rutgers University, a graduate certificate in Educational Technology Integration from Boise State University, and bachelor’s degrees in both Philosophy and Linguistics from Brandeis University.
