PubMed is an essential resource in health science research, but it is just one component of a complex information landscape. This webinar, designed for early career health sciences librarians, will explore a wider range of research tools, including scholarly databases, eBook platforms, and standards and guidelines resources. We’ll consider how to select appropriate resources, the nuances of differing controlled vocabularies, and strategies for sharing these skills with health science researchers. Through a combination of interactive lecture, live demonstration, and scenario-based discussions, you will learn how to apply your new knowledge when responding to user inquiries. During this webinar, you will receive a comprehensive handout detailing key resources and rationale for use.

Be able to answer this question from beyond PubMed: “How do you decide which databases to use when addressing a search question?”

Presenter

Laura Haygood is an experienced medical librarian holding an MLIS degree from the University of Oklahoma. She works at Brown University, where she develops and delivers impactful instruction for clinicians, researchers, and students, empowering them to effectively navigate and leverage complex information resources. In addition to her work at Brown, Laura also consults on guideline development with various professional organizations.

Laura has a proven record of supporting health sciences education, conducting systematic reviews, and optimizing accessibility for users. In 2020, Laura’s desire to create peer and near-peer support for new medical librarians led to her co-founding the first Early Career Librarian’s Initiative (ECLI) chapter. Her skills encompass a deep understanding of medical databases, evidence-based resources, and the ever-evolving landscape of scholarly communication in the health sciences. Laura’s accomplishments demonstrate her knowledge of health information resources and her commitment to empowering new librarians with essential skills for career advancement.
