The Dorot Jewish Division at The New York Public Library holds one of the largest and most diverse Jewish cookbook collections in the world: more than 3,000 cookbooks in 18 languages, published from the 19th century to the present. Cookbooks are an often untapped source for historical research, documenting customs, observances, consumer choices, and regional culinary adaptations in everyday and festive settings. They also illuminate the unique contributions of women and the activities of communal organizations. Come learn about this unparalleled collection, developed by the late Roberta Saltzman, former Assistant Chief of the Division.
Presenter: Amanda (Miryem-Khaye) Seigel is Instruction and Outreach Librarian at the Dorot Jewish Division of The New York Public Library.
