Bridging the Long Island Library Community
Great Neck Library is the custodian of the microfilm reels of the Nassau Alphabetical of New York City Telephone Directories (Nassau County) collection, dating from January 1913 through December 1974. Recently digitally reformatted, these directories will soon be available online through the Great Neck Public Library Website and New York Heritage. The Directories are a resource like no other, giving a snapshot of who lived where and confirming residency at any specific time.
Christy Orquera, Local History Librarian at Great Neck Public Library, will walk us through the information found in the directory and offer real world examples of research questions posed by insurance agents, realtors, previous homeowners, genealogists and biographers, from across the country.
This project was funded by an RDBD Grant through the Long Island Library Resources Council.
