Presenters:

Syntychia Kendrick-Samuels

A 2016 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, Ms. Kendrick-Samuel has had considerable success working for the people of Uniondale by creating a dynamic teen department, has won numerous grants, awards and presented at local, city, state and national conferences. Notable library journals have published her articles about her experiences as a Teen Librarian. She expanded her role at Uniondale Public Library in the Spring of 2021 when she was promoted to Assistant Director.

Christina Hirsch

Head of the Children's Department at Uniondale Public Library.

My Name is Chrissy Hirsch. I am a children's librarian and a nature lover. I grew up in Rosedale Queens for most of my childhood. My Grandma and Grandpa had a small container stoop garden in Queens and would grow zucchini, tomatoes and peppers. They used to fry the zucchini flowers for us to eat as treats.  We moved to Long Island and I started my own garden in my early teenage years.

I love when I see families come together in our library garden and relive their childhood memories of their family gardens.

We hope to grow and learn with the community and become a family garden together.

Tamelee Young

Children's Librarian, Uniondale Public Library.

My name is Tamelee Young. I am a children's librarian and a garden enthusiast. I grew up here on Long Island and my parents always had a garden. I want to share and learn new ideas with the community. We can learn so much from each other. Gardening is universal. My favorite part of gardening is, watching a seed grow.
