The Historic Furnishing of Theodore Roosevelt’s Home, Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. Join Susan Sarna for a behind the scenes look at the research involved in implementing Sagamore Hill’s Historic Furnishing plan. The home has gone through two major renovations and several updates to the furnishings in the 67 years as a museum. As Curator, Susan has always felt that her number one priority at Sagamore Hill is the protection and the historic accuracy of the Roosevelt Home and its contents. As the project manager of the 2015 renovation of the Home and the collection her main goal was the National Park Service’s motto: to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Susan Sarna has spent 31 years protecting, conserving, researching and educating people about the life and times of Theodore Roosevelt and his family. Her work has been informed by her studies in both Public History and Education and having studied in the U.S. and England. Before working for the National Park Service she was a high school teacher and is well-practiced in engaging minds of all ages.
