Providing Your Own "Gifts of Gab": Social Support For Your Patrons

Join Stony Brook University Social Worker Interns for a program geared towards providing insight into how our librarians can better support their patrons, especially those that have been isolated, during this time.

They will also be discussing how to connect your patrons to a volunteer interim project that can aid in alleviating the negative effects social isolation has on older adults during this pandemic. The project is a volunteer call-based companion coordination that connects social work students and those in need of social interaction. Weekly phone calls are set up for light conversations to keep people connected during these difficult times.

This program will cover:

• Effects of social isolation
• Tips on how libraries can support patrons at this time
• Self-care for seniors and additional resources
• What is Gifts of Gab

FOR OUR PARTICIPANTS - We have implemented a two step verification process for security purposes and to maintain accurate attendance records.  You will need both a LILRC and a Zoom account. 

If you do not already have a LILRC account you will be prompted to create one (if you have forgotten your password, and need help resetting it you can email Eliscia at ecirrone@lilrc.org).   

If you do not already have a zoom account you will be prompted to do so upon logging into the meeting.  If this is the first time you are using Zoom, after you have created an account, you can join the meeting by entering the Meeting ID/ Password provided to you in the confirmation email.  You can access all subsequent Zoom meetings by clicking the meeting link in the confirmation email.
