Digitization Best Practices and Metadata Basics (Sachem)

This workshop offers the attendees the resources to begin a digital project and learn about commonly used metadata fields. This class will be for anyone wishing to learn more about these topics and is required for joining the New York Heritage digital collections website. 

Here's what you'll learn: 
  • Deciding on a digital project 

  • Hands-on digitization techniques - scanning guide 

  • Metadata - what is 'data about data' 

  • Understanding common metadata fields 

  • Setting up a spreadsheet for your items

Sachem Public Library - Friday, February 14th, (9:30 registration/networking) 10:00AM-1:00PM
South Huntington Public Library - Tuesday, March 24th, (9:00 registration/networking) 9:30AM-12:30PM
Farmingdale Public Library - Thursday, May 7th, (1:00 registration/networking)1:30PM-4:30PM 

A certificate for 3 Professional Development Hours (.3 CEU's) will be emailed after the workshop.
