New York State Common Core Guidelines and Resources

The New York State Library’s Division of Library Development (DLD) recently released a set of Common Core Learning Standards  to be implemented in libraries throughout the state. DLD has also released a prerecorded webinar, Regents Reform Agenda and the Common Core, as well as the presentation slides.

In addition, the New York State Education Department has developed EngageNY.org web site for current materials and resources related to the Regents Reform Agenda, which includes the implementation of the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS), Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE), and Data-Driven Instruction (DDI).

Resources and Services for Physicians and Researchers

The New York State Library provides physicians and medical researchers with access to medical and scholarly collections. The New York State Library (NYSL) has an extensive medical and health collection for easy access to evidence-based, clinical information and comprehensive literature searches in the medical, biomedical, life science and psychology fields. The focus of the collection is for the general practitioner, medical researcher and medical specialist. The collection includes clinically relevant sources, standards for patient care, diagnostic and therapeutic resources, treatment and alternative therapies, medical research databases and directories. The State Library also has a large historical collection of medical pamphlets and books.

Physicians and New York State Government employees statewide are eligible for a New York State Library “P” Borrower’s Card. Physicians can use their NYSL “P” Borrower’s Card from their office or home to access the 100 online databases and over 20,000 e-journals and e-newspapers available from the Library. Physicians can also use their card to borrow materials from the Library’s circulating print and microform collections.
