Adult and Information Services Coordinator

Description of Position:
An employee in this class is responsible for overseeing the Adult and Information Services Department and supervising all Adult and Information Services employees and volunteers, full time and part time.  The Adult and Information Services Coordinator reports to the Director.


  • Planning, organizing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating Adult and Information Services 

  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, task assigning, evaluating, and general supervising of Adult and Information Services staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale

  • Selecting, evaluating, maintaining, and discarding reference and other adult materials based on professional judgment, preferences of patrons, and acknowledged review sources 

  • Overseeing the provision of reference, readers advisory, and bibliographic instruction services to adult patrons

  • Developing, maintaining, and evaluating special collections

  • Supervising the implementation of adult programs for patrons

  • Acting as a liaison with the Foundation Center

  • Promoting, publicizing, and representing the library to the community and local agencies in cooperation with other departments

  • Working with library administration to seek supplementary funding to enhance library services, including grants

  • Conducting staff meetings and participating in in-service training programs

  • Attending conferences and workshops to keep informed of professional developments

  • Identifies, collects and interprets statistics as needed

  • Performance of other duties as may be required

  • Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school required

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Broad knowledge of adult resources and experience working with the public

  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with patrons and staff

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, make quick decisions, and perform well under pressure

  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
