Substitute Librarian I Position 

The Baldwin Public Library is seeking an energetic, dedicated and flexible Substitute Librarian I to work in our Children's department. Successful candidate will work up to 8 hours per week when needed, as per Civil Service guidelines. Schedule will include nights (5-9 pm) and weekend hours if needed. 

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

• Provide library services to children, parents/caregivers and teachers, including: 

o Reader's Advisory
o Research o Basic computer / technology assistance
o Other duties / projects as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Previous experience working as a Children's librarian. 

Strong customer-service orientation. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

• Comfort with a range of technologies.
• Knowledge of Children's literature. 

Experience with Sierra and Encore is a plus. 


M.L.S from an ALA-accredited institution. Current N.Y.S. Public Librarian certificate. Must be a Nassau County Resident. 

Hourly Salary Range: $19.70-$33.01 per hour, depending on experience. 

This is a non-competitive Civil Service position.
