Part-Time Librarian Position Available

Uniondale Public Library is currently seeking a dynamic, friendly and energetic librarian to work in our Adult / Reference Department.   


  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution

  • NYS Librarians Certificate.

  • Must be a Nassau County resident

  • Public library experience working in Adult/Reference Services

  • Provide general desk duties and assist public in use of the library and its resources

  • Provide assistance to patrons with reference and reader’s advisory needs through print, non-print and electronic sources

  • Provide technology assistance with public computers and various mobile devices: laptops, tablets, phones, Hot Spots, Rokus, Kindles, etc.

  • Assist patrons with registering for programs and reserving museum passes.

  • Assist with collection development  

  • Other projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities  

  • Energetic, motivated, detail-oriented, and flexible.

  • Commitment to excellent customer service to patrons of all ages.

  • Strong technology skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, SIERRA, Encore, EventKeeper, and OverDrive is required.

  • Effective collaboration skills and the ability to function individually and in a team environment.

  • Strong written and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of languages other than English is a plus.

Hours and Wage:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule – daytime, evening and weekend shifts.

  • Schedule may include 2 nights, two Saturdays, and two Sundays.

  • $24.00/hour

  • Sundays are paid at the rate of the time and a half
