Part-Time Librarian/Librarian Trainee - Commack Public Library

The Commack Public Library seeks a creative, energetic and enthusiastic librarian or librarian trainee to join its Young Adult Department for 15 hours a week.

Do you check off any of these boxes? If so, this job is for you!
o Plan and implement innovative programs for teens including volunteer programs.
o Knowledge of Young Adult Literature and able to sell a book to a teen.
o Display customer service skills with patrons in an upbeat and positive manner.
o Demonstrate and explain digital resources, such as Brainfuse
o Enjoy interacting with teens and their parents and able to effectively manage a large
teen program.
o Have flexibility to work mornings, afternoons if needed.

Required Qualifications:
o MLS degree from an ALA accredited school or actively enrolled in an accredited MLS
program with at least 12 credits for a Librarian Trainee. MLS graduates need to meet the
minimum requirements of the entry level (children’s services) Suffolk County Civil
Service exam.
o Excellent customer service skills
o Knowledge of current technology and literature
o Strong time management skills
o Multitasking abilities
o Availability to work nights and weekends
