The Riverhead Free Library seeks an innovative librarian or librarian trainee with excellent interpersonal skills to fill the full-time position of Youth & Family Services Librarian or Librarian Trainee. This position reports directly to the Youth & Family Services Coordinator.
Job Duties
- Plan, organize, and facilitate programs for birth- grade 12 utilizing current trends.
- Enjoy interacting with patrons of all ages
- Experience working with children (birth – 12th grade) and parents.
- Provide excellent reference, reader’s advisory and referral services.
- Proficiency in utilizing current technologies.
- Promotion and demonstration of library programs and services through outreach.
- Strong interest and knowledge of children’s & teen literature and collection development
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills for working collaboratively on library events.
Qualifications
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school or actively enrolled in an accredited MLS program with at least 12 credits for a Librarian Trainee.
- Must be eligible for or have a valid active NYS Public Librarian Certificate
- Commitment to professional development.
- Ability to express oneself orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, coworkers, library patrons, members of professional library organizations and community groups
- Spanish speaking a plus

Salary
- Librarian: $53,482.97 Librarian Trainee: $47,778.06
- 35 hours per week. This position will require daytime and evening hours. Weekends are on a rotation basis
- Paid personal time, accrued vacation and sick time
