Children's Library Assistant - Quogue Library

Join our team of dedicated library staff. We seek a dynamic and energetic Children’s Library Assistant to perform circulation, reader’s advisory, and program assistance for our youngest patrons in our freshly renovated Association Library. The right candidate will be ready to deliver excellent library service and work closely to support our extraordinary Children’s Librarian. Flexibility, strong team work, and a desire to help our community is a must. 

Library experience and a working knowledge of Sierra preferred. Must be ready to dive into Children’s circulation service and shelving, support our Summer Learning Club, and bring a love for fresh program ideas.

This is a part time (21 hours a week) position with no health benefits. The majority of these hours are assigned to our Children’s service desk, with some program planning time off-desk.

Qualifications: 

  • Track record of excellent service to families and children with strong communication skills 

  • A commitment to equitable and compassionate library service 

  • Strong commitment to STEM education and a comfort using technology with patrons 

  • Experience developing and presenting early literacy programs 

  • A curious, life-long learner with a positive outlook 

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, management and the public 

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions 

  • Ability to comprehend and follow practices, policies and procedures 

  • Ability to stand or sit for duration of shifts, and the ability to lift 40 pounds 

  • Ability to pass a background check

 

Responsibilities include; 

Developing and presenting programs for families and children ages 0-18 

Service and circulation work including helping our youngest patrons with technology, readers’ advisory check-in/check-out, and patron account issues 

Strong knowledge of children’s literature preferred

Working with volunteers of all ages
