The Central Islip Public Library is seeking a part-time Librarian or Librarian Trainee to join our Adult Reference Department.
The Central Islip Public Library is a Civil Service library, therefore applicants must fall under the current Civil Service guidelines for Librarian 1 and Librarian Trainee.
Librarian Trainee: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited or New York State registered library program, completion of which will qualify the applicant for either a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS), or for a Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS).
Librarian I: Must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or a Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS) from an accredited library school, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed by the Civil Service guidelines.
Additional Desired Requirements:
We are looking for candidates with a passion for working with a diverse population. In addition to providing reference services and reader’s advisory, candidates will also have an opportunity to take part in planning and implementing library activities, as well as some collection development.
Assist library users with computers/technology items, mobile devices, and apps.
Other projects as assigned.
Days and Hours Requirements:
Some morning, evening and weekend hours will be required, with a maximum of 17 ½ hours per week.
Librarian Trainee $18.97 per hour
Librarian 1 $20.65 per hour
