The Long Island Maritime Museum is looking for a responsible, enthusiastic, and organized Summer Camp Educator for our summer camp. The Summer Camp Educator will act as a leader and provide participants with a fun, safe and educational camp experience. The educator will be responsible for program implementation of each of the camps and support and maintain a positive relationship with staff, parents and campers. The educator will be expected to interact with campers in all program components of all camps and create a fun and safe environment at all times.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure programs are run safely and on structured camp schedule
  • Learn and teach assigned camp curriculum and weekly camp programs
  • Develop lessons and create outdoor games/activities/ crafts
  • Oversee counselors and counselors in training (CITS)
  • Supervise weekly field trips
  • Act as main liaison between camp attendees and organization
  • Maintain camp supplies and classroom
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Required Skills & Knowledge: Strong communication, teamwork, and organization skills
  • Must be available to attend CPR and first aid training
  • High energy, excellent people skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude
  • A keen interest and ability to work with children aged 6-11, provide outdoor related programs and support children’s interests and needs as well as other related interests

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must possess Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must have experience working with children, ages 6-11
  • Background in environmental education (preferred)
  • Willing to be Background Tested
  • Prepared for physically demanding job (very active, high energy)
