High School and Beyond

The High School and Beyond Interest Group was created to promote discussion and provide a platform where academic, public, and school librarians can share information on the needs of high school students transitioning to college and life.

Current Project

The High School and Beyond Interest Group developed the idea to meet with teachers and administrators this past fall and winter. The first part of the goal of this project is to increase the awareness of teachers and administrators of the role librarians play in preparing students for college including the importance of information literacy. The second part is to educate the librarians and teachers about expectations students will face at the college level.

Our strategy in this project is to have an academic librarian, school librarian and public librarian meet with teachers and administrators to discuss these issues. For context, take a look at Stony Brook University's recently piloted grant-funded Ready for Success Information Literacy Project. Although the LILRC project is not part of this grant, we are encouraged by the successes they have had.
