Diversity Intern Job Description

Reporting to the Communications and Outreach Coordinator, the intern will assist the coordinator with implementing communications, marketing, and programming for member libraries. This includes posting and managing content on social media accounts. Gathering data on the evaluation of the effectiveness of communications and marketing.  The intern will also provide assistance in running programs for the council.  The intern will be given at least four opportunities to shadow professionals in different libraries to learn more about the type of work in libraries. Shadowing may include some work completed under the direction of the librarian in the member library.

Most work will be performed at the LILRC office in Bellport, New York.  Library visits to libraries in Nassau or Suffolk Counties will occasionally be required.  LILRC is a not for profit organization serving libraries in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  As a regional multi-type library organization serving academic, special, public, school libraries and library systems.  Our purpose is to enhance access to information, encourage resource sharing, and promote library interests for all LILRC members.

Interns will receive a stipend of $4000 and will be compensated for mileage based on current federal rates when travelling to member libraries.  The intern will work 15 hours per week for a 16 week period.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student at university in Nassau or Suffolk Counties
  • All fields of study and majors are encouraged to apply and will be considered 

Preferred qualifications

The candidate must be able travel to different libraries in Nassau and/or Suffolk Counties.
