13th Annual Conference on Libraries and Future
Library Vision: 20/10

Thursday and Friday, November 4 & 5, 2004
Dowling College, Oakdale, NY

The date is November 4th , 2004 and if you are among the select library and information specialists that register in time, YOU will be able to attend the dinner kicking off the 13th Annual LILRC Libraries of the Future Conference "Library Vision: 20/10" at Dowling College's Fortunoff Hall in Oakdale, Long Island!

You will be in the gathering of Long Island library leaders who have the opportunity to hear Catherine De Rosa, Vice-President, Marketing at Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) as she espouses her vision of our Changing World of Information.

After an evening of dining and glimpsing into the future, return to Dowling on Friday morning, November 5th for a delicious breakfast followed by discussions and case studies on Library Space Planning led by Andrea Michaels and Cate McNeely.  Since 1974, Michaels Associates has worked on over 300 library projects - efforts that have included feasibility studies and pre-architectural programming the building through precise space planning and interior design.  Cate McNeely is Deputy Chief Librarian at the Richmond Public Library in Vancouver, British Columbia, and an Adjunct Professor at University of British  Columbia School of Library, Archival and Information Studies.

Once you have planned your library, understand what you can put in it and distribute from it.  Your collection and its Digital Rights and Fair Usage Rights will be the topic of Lawyer/Library Scientist Professor Samuel E. Trosow.

Having eaten your way through lunch and tried digesting it over fair use of intellectual property issues, we will challenge your notion of the future of Integrated Library Systems with a point vs. counter-point presentation between Andrew K. Pace (Disintegration) and Marshall Breeding (Integration).  Andrew K. Pace is Head of Systems at NCSU Libraries, where he has participated in several successful initiatives, including a recent ILS migration, E-Book circulation, Web services interface design, a laptop lending program, and development of NCSU Libraries' electronic resource management system.  Marshall Breeding is the Library Technology Officer of the Jean & Alexander Heard Library, Vanderbilt University, reporting to the University Librarian and provides assistance in developing the strategic directions of the library related to technology.  He is a member of the Library Management Council and the University Librarian's Advisory Group.

Swimming with ideas for your library's future, see what the local library and information science students have researched for their courses and/or doctoral studies at our 3rd Annual LIS Student Poster Session while you enjoy the Viennese Reception that concludes the conference and allows further discussions with our speakers.

I look forward to seeing you in November!
