Committee on Services to Health Sciences Libraries

CHARGE
  1. To act in an advisory capacity to the Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC, or the Council) for the Hospital Library Services Program and other programs that impact health sciences libraries.
  2. To articulate the importance of contributions provided to the health care field and the library profession by health sciences libraries.
  3. To identify the needs of health sciences libraries in the Long Island region and to advocate fulfillment of those needs through recommendations for support and action.
  4. To communicate and collaborate with other committees of the Council regarding the special concerns of health sciences libraries.

GOALS

The goals of the Committee on Services to Health Sciences Libraries shall be:
  1. To provide continuing education, training, and professional development for health sciences librarians.
  2. To promote the use of new technologies in health sciences libraries.
  3. To set, implement, and evaluate specific objectives annually, which serve to implement committee goals.
  4. To encourage health sciences librarians to be active in monitoring, proposing, and responding to legislative and regulatory matters that affect their libraries.
  5. To facilitate the promotion of library services to users and to communicate the value of those services to the library's policymakers, executive and financial managers, and to other library organizations.
  6. To stimulate progress in resource sharing and interlibrary cooperation through such means as interlibrary loan, union lists and catalogs, cooperative catalog development, circuit librarians, and shared electronic resources and networks.
  7. To establish regular channels of communication with LILRC and its committees and consolidate efforts on issues of mutual concern.
